Dubai Expo City Authority today announced the launch of a non-profit organization, as part of its efforts to achieve its mission of supporting and developing innovative ideas that benefit people and the planet.
The new entity, called Expo City Foundation Dubai, builds on the successes of Expo Live, the leading and influential global innovation and partnership program announced as part of Expo 2020 Dubai.
The Foundation seeks to connect individuals, ideas, and resources, and establish a wide network of purposeful organizations that work together to find solutions to the most pressing challenges in the world. It will enhance opportunities for financing, cooperation, investment, and business, providing an enabling environment for social enterprises and innovators from the world to expand and develop their ideas.
The new foundation aims to establish a series of partnerships designed to support social entrepreneurs across a wide range of sectors, based on the firm conviction that a broad coalition of people working together can contribute to finding tangible solutions that benefit communities and the planet.
After Expo City Dubai hosted the Climate Summit (COP28) and the most comprehensive World Expo to date, the Foundation is working to strengthen the city’s position as a center for purposeful partnerships.
The launch of the Foundation was attended by Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemi, Minister of State for International Cooperation and CEO of Dubai Expo City Authority, Director General of the Community Development Authority, Hessa bint Issa Buhumaid, and a number of government officials, institutions, partners and innovators.
Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemi said: “Our pioneering innovation program, Expo Live, rooted in the vision and values of Expo 2020 Dubai, continues to support millions of individuals around the world. We are confident in our ability to achieve a greater impact and create more opportunities. Badr Jaafar expected that trillions of dollars would be allocated to strategic charitable work in various parts of Asia and Africa in the coming years, and said that the United Arab Emirates possesses the capabilities that make it a global center for data, design and implementation of charitable projects and solutions to the greatest challenges facing our world, and with the proven track record of Expo City Dubai in “Delivering broad, positive global impacts, the Dubai City Foundation will play a pivotal role in realizing this opportunity and responsibility.”
The Foundation builds on the legacy of Expo Live’s distinguished innovation and partnerships program, which has so far supported 191 initiatives from 92 countries. The program was launched in 2013, and the first five cycles of the program had a positive impact on 5.8 million people around the world, and worked to create 160,000 jobs, improved health care for 1.1 million people, and restored 36 million hectares of land.
