Abu Dhabi Fund for Development launched the first live radio programme on sustainability in the country, under the title “Sustainable Awareness”, in conjunction with the country’s orientation towards completing 2024 as the Year of Sustainability.
The programme aims to raise awareness about the concepts and issues of environmental, social and economic sustainability, and highlights the country’s rich track record of sustainable practices in all their forms, and highlights the efforts of national institutions and their effective role in strengthening strategic partnerships with countries around the world to address sustainability challenges, and search for innovative solutions to support sustainable development goals, and accelerate the global shift towards a green economy, to achieve a better future for all.
His Excellency Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development, said: “We are pleased to announce the launch of the first live radio programme on sustainability in the UAE, which is in line with the country’s directives and authentic approach to preserving the legacy of development, and is in line with the Fund’s strategic objectives and future aspirations to build a prosperous and sustainable future for future generations.”
He added that the “Sustainable Awareness” programme stems from the keenness to raise the level of awareness of the local community about the concepts and requirements of sustainability, disseminate them widely, and highlight the country’s heritage in this field, explaining that the awareness programme aims to review the best practices, qualitative initiatives and development projects that support the achievement of sustainable development goals, in addition to enriching Arab studies and research with information and knowledge related to sustainability, and increasing the cultural stock of it in light of the increasing demand for it.
The programme is broadcast on Noor Dubai Radio, through a series of 13 episodes, presented by Dr. Abu Bakr Musa Al-Toum, a researcher in sustainability and social responsibility, and founder of Mustadham for Project Management Services.
The episodes address various topics in the field of sustainability, through inspiring dialogues and constructive discussions with the participation of officials, experts and speakers in this field.
The programme also includes a variety of cultural competitions on sustainability, and valuable prizes provided by the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development.
Through the episodes of the radio programme “Sustainable Awareness”, the concept of sustainability in all sectors will be addressed, as will the development legacy of the Abu Dhabi Fund for Development and its sustainable impact on the prosperity of societies, and the role of national industries in supporting the UAE’s export development policy and achieving diversification of the local economy.
The issue of climate change will be raised, through a review of global practices to reduce its effects and shift towards clean energy, with a focus on the results of the historic “UAE Agreement” and the success of COP28 in achieving a balance between development requirements and climate action.
A variety of topics will also be presented, including introducing the Mohammed bin Zayed Water Initiative, to raise awareness of the importance of the water scarcity crisis and its seriousness at the international level, the essential role of the education sector in the renaissance of societies, harnessing technology and artificial intelligence to address contemporary development challenges, and supportive means to enhance food security.
The role of youth in achieving sustainable development, the efficiency of infrastructure and public transportation systems in the progress of countries, and the societal responsibility of individuals and their impact on promoting comprehensive and sustainable growth will be discussed.
