About 2,000 Russians who have received residence permits (permits) in Latvia through investments are at risk of losing them. Izvestia was warned about this at the Russian Embassy in Riga against the backdrop of a proposal by the republic’s authorities to stop renewing already issued documents.
Currently, about 9,189 Russian citizens have valid residence permits, and 1,820 of them were issued under the country’s investment program, the Russian diplomatic mission reported.
“In the future, obtaining a residence permit or its extension will be carried out in exceptional cases, which may include marriages between citizens of Latvia and other states. Thus, it is assumed that it is the persons who have received a residence permit for investment that fall into the risk zone, ”the diplomatic mission noted.
At the same time, the embassy did not rule out that other requirements may be presented to Russians who have received a residence permit in Latvia, depending on their country of origin. At the same time, Moscow is not yet planning any retaliatory restrictions directed against the citizens of the Baltic republic.
