The Netherlands reduces the hours of the hospitality industry and imposes the mask in primary and secondary schools
The acting Dutch Government has decided to impose the partial closure of hotels, cinemas, theaters, museums, hairdressers and shops that are not essential. The new rule will come into effect this Sunday, will be in force between 5:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., and will remain in force until December 18. Gyms and non-professional sports will follow the same schedule and deadlines. Food stores may close at 8:00 p.m. The mask should be used in all enclosed places when on the move, and the distance of 1.5 meters should be kept. Education will remain open, although students must wear a mask in the hallways in primary and secondary school (10 years and older). The new restrictions are expected to reduce person-to-person contacts by 25%, thus curbing infections. It is also advisable to work from home, and also reduce visits to grandparents and the elderly. Acting Prime Minister Mark Rutte has appealed for solidarity because under these conditions “deaths can be victims of domestic violence and the elderly are left alone,” he said.
On the other hand, the Minister of Health, Hugo de Jonge, has indicated that operations that are not considered urgent will be postponed throughout the country. In this way, there will be more free staff to care for ICU patients and those admitted with coronavirus. The treatments and interventions scheduled over the next six weeks “will be maintained as much as possible,” he said. It is, in this case, cases of cancer or heart problems. The police are prepared in case there are protests in the streets tonight, and the City Council of The Hague has asked “those who do not agree with the new rules” not to come out to demonstrate. Or, in any case, that they do it in a local park. Informs Isabel Ferrer.
