EThey are sinister conspiracy theorists and right-wing extremists who, with their exaggerated warnings of a massive power failure, stir up irresponsible fears and spread fantasies of doom through the usual channels. We have no electricity problem. Until recently, that was the narrative of our friends in the public service broadcasters, who tell us what to think and how to act every day.

But now, it’s hard to believe, the tide is turning: blackouts are believed to be possible, for example on ZDF, and the Wiso channel also puts instructions on the Internet, which belong to the “emergency equipment in the event of a longer power failure”. It’s good that we’ve now been told: drinking water, camping stove, flashlight, blankets and of course a battery-operated radio to receive the latest announcements from public broadcasters. What the colleagues have forgotten: the highly recommended technology thriller “Blackout – Tomorrow is too late” by Marc Elsberg as contemporary reading.

The fact that you don’t have to worry about a blackout is also the tenor of a nonsense video that is currently making the rounds on Tiktok and Twitter. The blackout is a sinister conspiracy, because if the wind isn’t blowing and the sun isn’t shining, then batteries, storage systems and the accumulators of electric cars would be tapped in such a way that the electricity that had already been charged would flow backwards back into the grid. The nonsense is heavily criticized on Twitter. But why does not a single “fact checker” jump on this nonsense?

Perhaps a large part of the problems in this country also lies in the fact that our political leadership is overstrained when it comes to making energy policy decisions. Has never done anything in his life but politics. No training, dropped out of college, didn’t finish anything, didn’t get anything straightened out, never worked in business. We can think of several such biographies, but it’s probably just one huge conspiracy theory.
