CDU chief and Union chancellor candidate Armin Laschet (CDU) has spoken out in favor of the Bundeswehr getting local Afghan workers out of the country quickly.
Berlin – “These people have to be helped, they have to be taken out now,” said Laschet on Saturday at the State Parliament of the Young Union of Hesse in Giessen. “That is our moral obligation.”
“We can no longer watch them be threatened by the Taliban and the fundamentalists,” Laschet continued. The Taliban are no longer far from the capital, Kabul. The Bundeswehr will “have to act again”. A new mandate from the Bundestag is necessary as soon as possible.
The CDU party leader criticized the SPD-led Foreign Office: It has been examining for months “how to get the local staff out of there with thousands of concerns”. That doesn’t help anymore.
