Larry king He suffered from type 2 diabetes and had had numerous medical problems, including several heart attacks, lung cancer, and angina pectoris, a disease caused by decreased blood flow to the heart.
Yesterday, the famous American TV presenter died of coronavirus. The first days of this month, it was reported that he had been hospitalized, since the last week of December, for Covid-19 in Los Angeles.
The news of his death was given through his Twitter account. “With deep sadness, Ora Media announces the death of our co-founder, host and friend Larry King, who passed away this morning at the age of 87 at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles,” the statement reads.
King was one of the most important figures in the history of American television, famous for his shirts, his multi-colored ties, his suspenders and his large glasses.
During the 25 years that his show ‘Larry King Live’ ran on CNN, he achieved what no other broadcast of his day did: successive primetime audience records five nights a week.
He interviewed all American presidents since 1974 and world leaders like the Palestinian Yasir Arafat or the Russian Vladimir Putin. YouTube is showing scenes worth remembering, such as behind the scenes with Hugo Chávez, when King released the first lines of Jorge Negrete’s classic ‘There on the big ranch’ and without hesitation the then president of Venezuela followed him, even joking that a guitar was missing.
Also memorable is the meeting he had in 1994 with Marlon Brando who decided to give him the exclusive to promote his memoirs. The gathering had its peak moment when both gave a kiss after humming ‘Got a Date with an Angel’.
The figures of music were also seduced to come to his studio. In 2010, Lady Gaga arrived dressed to emulate King himself, with suspenders included. “Should I call you Larry or should I call you King Larry?” She launched at the first second.
King was married eight times. She divorced in 2019 from Shawn Southwick. He was the father of five children and had nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Tragedy shook the year with an event that no parent should experience. Their sons Andy King and Chaia King died within weeks of each other in July and August, one from a heart attack and the other after a battle with lung cancer.
He himself was in charge of breaking the news on his Facebook account. “With great sadness and the broken heart of a parent, I confirm the recent loss of two of my children, Andy and Chaia King. They were good and gentle souls and we will miss them very much. Andy passed away suddenly, of a heart attack on July 28 and Chaia left on August 20, after she had been diagnosed with a lung tumor. Losing them is wrong. No father should bury his children, “he added.
“I never learned anything when I was the one speaking. The new journalists think they know more than a lawyer, a businessman or a religious. They have to shut up and listen to the interviewee ”.
