Because the farmers were stopped by a large police force at both the center and the A1, the crowd left Apeldoorn, where an emergency ordinance is in force tonight.

With a large police force on its feet and closed roads, the government seems to be sending out a clear signal on Wednesday evening. After Tuesday night’s escalations in which police officers were harassed and cars destroyed, authorities are drawing a clear line in the sand. As a result of these disturbances, a 39-year-old man from Lochem was arrested on Wednesday evening, the police reported. He is suspected of public assault and vandalism. An emergency ordinance has been in force around the minister’s house since Wednesday, which applies for a week.
Dozens of farmers with tractors gathered at the A1 viaduct over Kanaal Zuid near Apeldoorn on Wednesday evening. Officers spoke to the farmers. Because some tried to move to the city, the ME closed other routes as well. Some farmers tried to get past the lines of the police, they were just as hard sent back.
The Europaweg was hermetically closed as a precaution to prevent the group from reaching the police station. There are nine people at the station who were arrested last night during protests. A liberation campaign was announced via social media.
The police were lined up with many vehicles at the highway exit at the beginning of Europaweg. The road has been closed to traffic. The A1 is not accessible from Apeldoorn and Hoenderloo. Traffic from the A1 is also sent back. A shovel and tow truck were also standing by the highway to be able to remove tractors if necessary. Two police helicopters also circled the area.
Police have ordered the crowd that had gathered at the exit to watch the whole thing leave:
At the beginning of the evening, Mayor Heerts issued the northern ordinance. The emergency ordinance will apply to a large part of the municipality of Apeldoorn from Wednesday 7.30 pm. With the emergency ordinance, the police can take action against rioters, close roads, evacuate places and prohibit gatherings. People who do not leave after a request can be detained by the police.
Mayor Heerts: “The municipality sees demonstrating as a fundamental right. As long as it remains within the limits of the law, a lot is possible within Apeldoorn. Blocking of roads and (threats of) disturbance of public order and safety are not allowed”.
Because the police were prepared for the arrival of the farmers, a large police force was standing by around 7:30 am. There were about ten police vans and an arrest team with three police vans at the office on Europaweg. Furthermore, the dog handlers’ cars were ready and the police had a shovel with a trailer ready for possibly unpleasantly placed tractors.
Agricultural Monument
Hundreds of farmers gathered in Kootwijkerbroek on Wednesday evening. They laid flowers near a wooden frame in a meadow on Harskamperweg. The ‘agricultural monument’ was erected for a commemoration and a minute of silence. Attention was paid to a number of farmers who, according to the organization, took their own life last week.
“We want to show how dramatic the situation is in the agricultural sector in the Netherlands. We must show that together we are strong, both in grief and in militancy. We are not going to be discouraged”, she explained to which they drove in column to Apeldoorn.
The police blockade takes place at the exit of the A1 to the Europaweg:
