Christian Lapetra has submitted his irrevocable resignation as president of Real Zaragoza. Very affected by the criticism of his person, yesterday he did not go to the box at La Romareda either, as happened on January 22 against Valladolid, and he has transferred his unappealable resignation to the board of directors of the public limited company, as announced by ‘Heraldo de Aragón’, whose distribution company Lapetra is an employee of, and AS has been able to confirm.
Lapetra already made a move to resign from the presidency a month ago, but was convinced at the last minute so as not to jeopardize the club’s sale process, he was told. But this time there is no turning back and Christian Lapetra leaves the representative presidency of Real Zaragoza seven and a half years after taking office on July 25, 2014, when César Alierta, the Yarza family, Juan Forcén and Carlos Iribarren acquired the shares of Agapito Iglesias.
The rumor about Lapetra’s possible resignation already circulated late in the afternoon yesterday, when he was warned of his absence from the box and that the club’s representation was held only by Alierta’s advisers and nephews, Fernando Sáinz de Varanda and Juan Uguet.
For its part, ‘Heraldo de Aragón’, owned by the Yarza family, reports in today’s edition that The North American investment group that is trying to close the purchase of Real Zaragoza is led by the Cuban-American businessman Jorge Más, co-owner with his brother José of the multinational company MasTec and whose partner is Inter Miami of the ‘Mayor League Soccer’ to David Beckham.
This group comes from the hand of the directors Yarza and Forcén in a parallel negotiation to which Alierta’s nephews they maintained first with the advisor of Betis José María Gallego, whose option was the first to fade, and they slip that they still have an opening with the Mexican group Orlegi.
The Ortegi group, which is interested in establishing itself in Spanish football, made a first offer two weeks ago that was rejected by the Alierta family and, although its CEO, Alfonso Villalba, did not finish breaking off the negotiation and before returning to Mexico he left open the possibility of specifying a second proposal linked to the permanence of the Aragonese team in the Second Division, he already contacted another club Spanish Second Division, like Burgos, in case his landing in Zaragoza finally fails.
