As a result of storms in Austria, a landslide occurred near Graz. It buried several children – one of them died.
Update from June 12, 9:43 p.m.: According to police reports, a five-year-old boy was killed in the landslide near Graz. Police also announced that a woman was walking in a forest with four children at the time of the landslide. Two of the children were buried, including the five-year-old boy who did not survive the accident. The other buried child was flown to hospital for treatment.
Around a hundred firefighters, a helicopter and a police sniffer dog were involved in the rescue work. A police officer told the APA news agency that the dog apparently played a valuable role in locating the buried child.

First report from June 12th: Graz – A tragic incident has occurred in Austria. A landslide occurred near Graz, possibly as a result of days of heavy rain. The earth buried two children playing, according to reports from the Styrian fire department. One boy was killed.
According to information from the fire department, a raised edge broke off in a section of the forest after 5 p.m. on Wednesday (June 12). While one of the children was quickly rescued, the search for the second child took an hour. There were two other children present, but they were not caught in the mudslide. It is currently assumed that the children were playing in the forest. The spokesman could not initially give any precise information on the children’s age, but suspected that they were of primary school age. The spokesman was also unable to say who had rescued the first child. A total of 140 firefighters from the Styrian fire service were on site. A crisis intervention team was also on site, according to courier were deployed to care for the relatives. A rescue helicopter was also deployed.
Due to the storms, a campsite in Austria was suddenly flooded. The fire brigade rescued people with boats. Several places were completely cut off from the outside world due to flooding.(tt/dpa)
