Landings without stopping in Lampedusa, over 1,400 migrants arrived in 3 days
Over 1,400 migrants have landed in Lampedusa in the last three days, and the island’s infrastructure is now collapsing. Over 737 people arrived all day yesterday, aboard 27 different boats. Among these, reports Adnkronos, 70 are women, about 20 are minors and two babies.
The relay at the Favaloro pier of the patrol boats of the Guardia di Finanza and the Harbor Master’s Office went on without interruption until late at night, intercepting carts from the sea and migrants who arrived independently: at least 27 were blocked by the carabinieri near a campsite , but no trace of their boats was found. And the operations have been repeated in the same way for at least three days.
After the surprising influx, favored by the sea conditions, the hotspot of the Imbriacola district, which can accommodate 250 people, has come to welcome over a thousand. The guests, with the coordination of the Prefecture, are then transferred to the centers of Porto Empedocle and Caltanisseta but in the meantime the arrivals do not seem to stop. Two quarantine ships are expected to arrive in Lampedusa: the Azzurra and the Adriatic.
