“I’d like to call it Thema”. Luca Napolitano opens up to a new name for Lancia’s future flagship. The CEO of the Stellantis premium brand spoke about the future of the Turin brand during a call with journalists and after the debut of the new Ypsilon the attention inevitably shifted to the next model envisaged by the Renaissance plan which will arrive in 2026 and which until a few days ago it should have been called Gamma.
Cryptic Napolitano
“The clinical test of what we call Lancia Gamma for now went well, the car was liked and was defined as futuristic by the customers” – said Napolitano – “But it’s not a Thema, it’s not a sedan. It recalls the innovations of the first Lancia Gamma and this is the name that best suits it.” Phrases that neither confirm nor deny the new name of the future flagship which therefore still remains pending.
Flagship born in Italy
Lancia’s new flagship car will be born on the STLA Medium platform and will be assembled in Italy in Melfi, on the same production lines that are currently handling the Fiat 500X and Jeep Renegate, with a technological upgrade that will allow the Lucanian site to adapt to the new medium-sized architecture from the Stellantis group. Other models of the company born from the merger between FCA and PSA will also be created in the same plant, including Opel and DS.
What we know about the new Lancia
the new flagship of the Turin brand should have a fastback crossover bodywork, similar to that of the Citroen C5 It should have a length of 4.70 meters. The design should instead be similar in style to the new Ypsilon and the Pu+Ra HPE concept, with the new Gamma which should bring the modern interpretation of the glass at the front and probably the circular headlights at the rear. Thanks to the new STLA Medium platform, Lancia’s new flagship could have an overall range close to 700 km and integrate the brand’s new technological systems, such as the SALA system which debuted on the new Ypsilon.
