Lamborghini Urus is electrified. The Taurus brand has chosen the Beijing Auto Show to make the world premiere of the new PHEV version of the Super SUV: Lamborghini Urus SEwith a rechargeable hybrid powertrain that offers a total power of 800 HP and above all 60 km of autonomy in full electric mode.
Engine and mechanics
The heart of the new Urus SE is the plug-in hybrid system that unites the 620 HP 4.0 biturbo V8 and 800 Nm of torque in combination with an electric motor of 192 HP and 483 Nm of torque, combined with the 25.9 kWh lithium ion battery which has been positioned under the loading floor and above the electronically controlled differential of the rear . The electric unit is of the permanent magnet synchronous type and can work as a boost for the combustion engine but also for the traction, thus offering a completely electric 4WD drive with a range of over 60 km in EV. The gearbox is an 8-speed automatic. The new continuously electronically controlled central transfer case with electro-hydraulically regulated multi-plate clutch makes its debut on the Lamborghini Urus SE: positioned centrally, it distributes the drive torque in a variable and continuous way between the front and rear axles. The transfer case works in synergy with the new electronically controlled self-locking differential installed on the rear axle, making the car oversteer “on demand” to give the feeling of a thoroughbred super sports car. Both systems have been designed and calibrated to best adapt to every grip condition and driving style, offering maximum traction and agility both between the curbs of a circuit and on desert dunes, on ice or on dirt roads.
Performance
When it comes to performance, the new Urus SE delivers a sprint from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.4 seconds, improving the figure of the Urus S (3.5 seconds) while 0-200 is consumed in 11.2 seconds (12.5 for the Urus S). The maximum speed is 312 km/h. In light of these performances, it is the most powerful and fastest Urus ever but also a new reference in the Super SUV category according to the Sant'Agata Bolognese brand.
Lamborghini Urus SE design
Renovated it is also the design of Lamborghini Urus SE, with a more sporty and muscular character. Starting from the new floating bonnet, which seems to have been designed in continuity with the bodywork, also winking at the Revuelto. The bumpers and front grille have also been renewed, which instead pay homage to the Gallardo, with the headlights now equipped with Matrix LED technology and have a new light signature that recalls the tail of the Bull. At the rear, however, we find a redesigned rear, with a new reference to the Gallardo, with Y-shaped headlights and a new diffuser. The latter together with the spoiler contributes to increasing the rear aerodynamic load (downforce) by 35% at high speeds compared to the Urus S, further increasing the stability of the car. From an aerodynamic point of view, there are new air outlets on the bottom and renewed aerodynamic ducts, which convey a greater flow of air for cooling the mechanical parts and the engine, with an increase of 15% compared to the Urus. The new design of the front section, combined with an optimization of the aerodynamic surface, has also made it possible to improve the management of the flows dedicated to the braking system with a 30% improvement compared to the previous system.
Interiors
The interiors were designed following the Lamborghini DNA “Feel like a pilot”, with innovative solutions. In the center of the board there is a larger screen, 12.3 inches, which presents a new Human Machine Interface (HMI), even more intuitive to use and updated in graphics, inspired by that of the Revuelto. We then find new air vents and Y-shaped anodized aluminum decorations. The coverings for panels, seats and dashboard have also evolved, with the presence of a new aeronautical-inspired mechanical button panel that accentuates the “feel like a pilot” concept. Behind the steering wheel we then find the 12.3-inch digital instrument panel.
The driving modes of the new Lamborghini Urus SE
In the center of the console, the “Drum” selector allows you to select the different driving modes: thanks to the introduction of the hybrid powertrain, the six Urus driving modes are combined with four new Electric Performance Strategies (EPS) for a total of eleven combinations. The EV Drive, Hybrid, Performance and Recharge strategies are added to the Road, Sport and Racing modes (for use on road and track), Snow, Sand and Terra (for surfaces with different grip on the asphalt). In the first case the car is calibrated for city driving, allowing not only to travel over 60 km using only the battery and the electric motor, but also to reach a maximum speed of over 130 km/h, beyond which it automatically intervenes to support also the V8, as well as when the torque demand at the wheels exceeds what the electric car can deliver. Hybrid, selectable when driving in Strada mode, offers efficiency, comfort and the optimal balance between internal combustion engine and electric motor. Recharge, selectable in Road, Sport, Racing and Snow modes, allows you to recharge up to 80% of the battery charge while maintaining optimal performance. Performance is the option to maximize the experience behind the wheel, available in Road, Sport and Corsa modes but also in Sand and Terra. Depending on the mode set, the car's height from the ground changes, varying from -15 mm in the Corsa up to +75 mm when the lifting system is activated compared to the normal road setting, in addition to the parameters that regulate steering, handling, mapping and sound of the twin-turbo V8 and therefore the character of the Urus SE.
Customization and new rims
The possibilities for customization are always very wide thanks to the Ad Personam program, with Urus SE introducing new alloy wheels such as the 23″ Galanthus model combined as standard with new Pirelli P Zero tires. There are three dedicated P Zeros, from 21″ to 23″, to satisfy customers' different requests for comfort and sportiness. Added to these is the Scorpion Winter 2 for the cold season. All products equipped with Pirelli Elect technology, developed to enhance the characteristics of the first hybrid Urus. The color palette is also greater, with over 100 options including two new launch colors: Egon Orange, combined with the Apodis Orange interior, and Sapphirus White with Terra Kedros interiors. The interiors offer 47 color combinations and four types of embroidery including the exclusive Q-citura,
