The people in the photo are proud of the 15,000th Lamborghini Urus ever built. It is finished in the colors Grigio Keres Matt with details in the color Verde Scandal. In other words: gray with green. A special achievement for Lamborghini, because the Urus has only been on the market for three years. With this, the SUV has already overtaken the Aventador, of which Lamborghini celebrated the 10,000th copy last year.
And then we come to the question: how long will it take before the Lamborghini Urus is more popular than all V12 models combined? Lamborghini built 764 of the Miura and 19.83 of the Countach. The production of the Diablo grew to 2,884 units. The Murciélago was even more popular with no fewer than 4,099 copies. Added together, Lamborghini must have sold somewhere around 20,000 V12 models.
The V8 is more popular than the V12
On average, the Urus records 5,000 copies per year. Even during corona, the Urus went like a mad bull. A quick calculation shows that in a year’s time the Urus will celebrate about number 20,000. That would mean that more Lamborghinis with a V8 engine have been produced than a V12 engine, even though the V12 has been synonymous with Lamborghini since the 1960s. You are free to form your own opinion about this.
You can of course think that the most popular Lamborghini engine actually comes from Audi, but on the other hand you can appreciate that Lamborghini has such a cash cow. That frees up some money to fund other crazy projects. The Aventador is in any case the last car with the current V12. The successor of the Aventador will get another V12, but a completely new one. And one with hybrid helpers.
