The same applies to wheel nuts on road cars as for parents with many children: if you ruin one it doesn’t matter much, because you still have three or four. The situation is slightly different with racing cars, because they often have one central wheel nut. If it’s not seated properly, you’ve got a problem. This is also the case with this Dutch Lamborghini Essenza SCV12, which does a reverse Bottasje.
The accident happened three weeks ago, but the video only appeared online last week. Owner Gerard van der Horst (which you know from the Dutch Lamborghini Sian) can happily laugh about it. He tells TopGear: ‘We are developing a new tire for Pirelli. This tire is faster than the car. Gonna be very special, top secret, don’t tell anyone.’
A joke of course, but luckily there is no damage. “We had to move a number of cars and racing cars from the workshop to another storage facility a few hundred meters away due to planned engineering work. Less than 50 meters after I left, the wheel came off, probably the nut was not tight. Luckily it went at about 30 km/h and we have no damage.’
