Lamborghini officially put its new ‘Countach’ on the road for the first time. The LPI 800-4, a car that will only be produced in 112 units, is based on the hybrid Sián FKP 37 and was proposed as the heir to the stylistic tradition of the Gandini and Stanzani Countach.
After some tests with various camouflages around Sant’Agata Bolognese, the Countach therefore received the real road ‘launch’, moreover in good company. The new hypercar was shown together with the first Countach LP 400 and the last ’25th Anniversary’. A magical trio, without a doubt. The three cars substantially represent 50 years of Lamborghini aerodynamic and technical development, through a long series of changes, including management changes of great weight. In order of release, the supercars represent the early days, the Chrysler period and current Volkswagen ownership.
The Countach LPI 800-4 has a total power of 814 HP; It features a house 6.5-liter V12 engine, with an output of 780hp, combined with a 48-volt electric motor mounted directly on the gearbox, which delivers an additional 34hp of power for immediate response and an increase in performance. The electric motor is powered by a supercapacitor that delivers three times more power than a lithium-ion battery, but with the same weight.
The car will be produced in a limited edition of only 112, all already sold before the presentation: the number of units produced is a reference to “LP 112”, the name of the project used internally during the development of the first version of the Lamborghini Countach. The Countach LPI 800-4 will be delivered starting in the first quarter of 2022. Mitja Borkert’s creature did not fail to create division among fans of the brandputting on the one hand those who appreciated the modernization in the form of a tribute, and on the other hand those who considered it inappropriate to recreate an iconic car of the past without considering its peculiarities.
