Philadelphia overcomes the yellow-violet, tension during a timeout in the 2nd half between Butler, Haslem and coach Spoelstra. Phoenix takes Minneapolis. The Celtics dominate Utah
Philadelphia beats the Lakers, without LeBron James, in Los Angeles with 54 combined points from Joel Embiid and James Harden, while Phoenix defeats Minneapolis with a super Deandre Ayton. Instead, the Miami Heat, nervous and disunited, fall into the house at the hands of the Golden State Warriors. Tension during a timeout in the 2nd half between Butler, Haslem and coach Spoelstra. The Mavericks win without Luka Doncic, the Hawks lose without Danilo Gallinari. Boston, on the other hand, continues to shine with its own light.
Los Angeles Lakers-Philadelphia 76ers 121-126
It is the 11th defeat in the last 15 games for the Lakers (31-42) who, even without LeBron James, kept at rest for his knee problems, manage to compete with the 76ers (45-27) but in the end they have to surrender. Embiid and his teammates touch +14 in the third quarter but the California team goes back down and forces Philadelphia to raise the level of concentration in the final to avoid a slip. In a match with eight players who score at least 20 points, a very active Howard thinks to surprise us above all, producing his best performance of the season: 24 points and eight rebounds. The MVP award candidate Joel Embiid, on the other hand, punches his usual card, finishing with 30 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and three blocks.
Los Angeles: Howard 24 (9/14, 6/9 tl), Westbrook 24 (8/15, 2/5, 2/5 tl), Monk 23. Rebounds: Westbrook 9. Assists: Johnson, Westbrook 8.
Philadelphia: Embiid 30 (11/18, 0/1 of three, 8/12 tl), Harden 24, Maxey 21. Rebounds: Embiid 10. Assists: Maxey, Harden 7.
Minnesota Timberwolves-Phoenix Suns 116-125
Show of strength for the Suns (59-14) who, again without CP3, overtake the Timberwolves (42-32) relying on the production of a super Ayton. The long from Phoenix makes the big voice in the painted area and ends up with 35 points (his career high) and 14 rebounds. A single win (or a defeat in Memphis) is now enough for Phoenix to seal the advantage of the home factor for the duration of the postseason. Instead, a very nervous Towns struggles and signs only three points (of his 15) in the second half.
Minnesota: Edwards 19 (4/9, 3/8 of three, 2/2 tl), Towns, Beasley, Nowell 15. Rebounds: Vanderbilt 12. Assists: Russell 7.
Phoenix: Ayton 35 (14/23, 1/1 of three, 4/4 tl), Booker 28, Shamet 19. Rebounds: Ayton 14. Assists: Payne 9.
Miami Heat- Golden State Warriors 104-118
Without Steph Curry, Draymond Green and Klay Thompson, the Golden State Warriors (48-25) scramble the best Eastern Conference team at home with a phenomenal performance from their supporting cast. Intense Dubs, fast in transition and very warm both in their attitude on the field and in the shooting percentages. Steve Kerr’s team dominated Miami (47-26) from the competitive point of view and was good at giving 2-3 important revs, in terms of partials, during the race. The extension in the 4th period was decisive, sealed by a couple of champion plays by Andrew Wiggins (22 points). Phenomenal Jordan Poole with 30 points and 9 assists but all the Warriors gave something more. They wanted to react, especially after Orlando’s embarrassing test, and they succeeded. The symbol of the Heat night is all in the heated discussion between Udonis Haslem and Jimmy Butler during a timeout in the 2nd half, in the midst of a 19-0 run by Golden State. Coach Erik Spoelstra is also very angry. Blackboard thrown on the parquet and a few words to say to Butler, face to face. Moments of great tension. And so came the dark times for the Heat too. After the defeat of Philadelphia, able to win without Embiid and Harden, in fact, Miami has now specialized in losing against teams decimated by important absences. The nervousness shown on the FTX Arena floor tells a different story, but the suspicion that Miami is doing everything possible to avoid meeting Brooklyn in the first round of the Playoffs is there.
You love me: Lowry 26 (9/14, 6/9 of three, 2/2 tl), Adebayo 25, Butler 20. Rebounds: Tucker 9. Assists: Lowry 9.
Golden State: Poole 30 (10/18, 7/13 of three, 3/3 tl), Kuminga / Wiggins / Lee 22. Rebounds: Looney 16. Assists: Poole 9.
Dallas Mavericks-Houston Rockets 110-91
Even with Luka Doncic in the pits due to a right ankle problem, the Mavericks (45-28) easily overtake the Rockets (18-55) in the Texan derby. After a decent first half, the visiting team went haywire at an attacking level in the second half (29% shooting) and things were simple for Dallas. Brunson becomes the first offensive option of the Mavs and in the end closes with 28 points. Dallas then locks Utah into this position in the West.
Dallas: Brunson 28 (10/17, 0/2 of three, 8/9 tl), Dinwiddie 26, Finney-Smith 14. Rebounds: Kleber 9. Assists: Dinwiddie 6.
Houston: Sengun 14 (5/9, 1/3 of three, 1/2 tl), Tate 13, Wood 12. Rebounds: Sengun 11. Assists: Porter Jr. 5.
Boston Celtics- Utah Jazz 125-97
What a beauty these Boston Celtics (46-28). Back from four consecutive victories on their journey west, Jayson Tatum and teammates play beautifully and dominate the Utah Jazz (45-28) at TD Garden with the ease and awareness of a great team. Exciting departure for Boston (39-24) and even a +25 already in the 1st half. Tatum and Brown (26 points each) pounding in attack, Smart a safety in the direction (13 assists) and then the defense, versatile on the perimeter and very present in the area. Despite Donovan Mitchell’s 37 points, Utah only came down to -18 in the 2nd half. For the team coached by Quin Snyder a complicated three-point 8/36 and just 13 assists out of 35 goals scored.
Boston: Tatum 26 (9/15, 5/8 of three, 3/3 tl), Brown 26, R. Williams 12. Rebounds: R. Williams 11. Assists: Smart 13.
Utah: Mitchell 37 (13/24, 3/12 from three, 8/8 tl), Gobert 14, Paschall 11. Rebounds: Gobert 11. Conley 3.
Detroit Pistons- Atlanta Hawks 122-101
The Hawks collapse (36-37) in the 2nd half of the 2nd game of the back-to-back and Detroit (20-53) took advantage of it, hitting the victory with the highest margin of the season, the 12th home. Without Danilo Gallinari and with a less overwhelming Trae Young (21 points) than yesterday’s Madison Square Garden race, Atlanta was overwhelmed by the hunger and energy of the Pistons, who knew how and when to increase the revs of their engine in this match. Eight double-digit players for coach Dwane Casey’s men, including Jerami Grant (21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists) and rookie Cade Cunningham (17 points, 8 assists and 6 rebounds).
Detroit: Grant 21 (6/11, 2/4 of three, 7/8 tl), Cunningham 17, Olynyk 16. Rebounds: Stewart 10. Assists: Cunningham 10.
Atlanta: Young 21 (9/18, 3/9 of three), Hunter 15, Bogdanovic 13. Rebounds: Capela 9. Assist: Young 9.
Charlotte Hornets- New York Knicks 106-121
In Charlotte, the Knicks (31-42) crush the Hornets (37-36) from start to finish, controlling the game from the 1st quarter (40-24). Tom Thibodeau’s team, devoid of the injured Julius Randle, fired a devastating 20/45 from three points that totally annihilated the hosts, always behind in the score. RJ Barrett with 30 points, Obi Toppin with the double double of 18 points and 11 rebounds: the Knicks legitimized the success. Hornets disunited, out of rhythm and mentally discharged, with a revisable attitude. The 32 points and 9 rebounds of LaMelo Ball are useless.
Charlotte: Ball 32 (13/23, 6/14 of three), Rozier 18, Bridges 15. Rebounds: Plumlee 9. Assists: Bridges 9.
New York: Barrett 30 (10/19, 3/7 of three, 7/8 tl), Toppin 18, Burks 17. Rebounds: Toppin 11. Assists: Fournier 7.
Indiana Pacers- Sacramento Kings 109-110
In the very last possession of the game, the defense of the Indiana Pacers (25-48) forgets to cut Damian Jones out with a rebound, so the long of the Kings (26-48) is free to transform Trey Lyles’ shooting error into victory tap-in for the Californians. Therefore, Buddy Hield (25 points, 10/18 shooting) and Tyrese Haliburton (13 points and 15 assists), the great ex of the game, remain dry-mouthed. Just two of their mistakes in the final, a missed layup and a lost ball, favored the small comeback Kings, down 109-106 with 1 ‘from the end. In addition to Jones’s basket, Davion Mitchell’s rookie test was also decisive: 25 points and 7 assists.
Indiana: Hield 25 (10/18, 5/8 of three), Bitadze 20, Taylor / Haliburton 13. Rebounds: Brissett 10. Assists: Haliburton 15.
Sacrament: Mitchell 25 (10/15, 2/5 of three, 3/3 tl), Metu 22, Jones 12. Rebounds: Jones 9. Assist: DiVincenzo 8.
Portland Trail Blazers-San Antonio Spurs 96-133
The Spurs (29-44) walk against the reworked Blazers (27-45) and approach the “play-in game” area now only a race and a half away. In Portland there is no match with the visiting team that explodes at an offensive level already in the first quarter, putting 45 points on the scoresheet. Murray signs 28 points without even decorating the parquet in the last fraction.
Portland: McLemore 23 (4/5, 3/4 of three, 6/6 tl), Eubanks 20, Hughes, Watford 10. Rebounds: Brown III 14. Assists: Eubanks 4.
San Antonio: Murray 28 (7/9, 3/5 of three, 5/6 tl), Johnson 26, Vassell, Poeltl 16. Rebounds: Collins, Poeltl 9. Assists: Jones 9.
Oklahoma City Thunder-Orlando Magic 118-102
After 10 consecutive losses, the Thunder (21-52) finally returned to success, knocking out the Magic (20-54). The French ex Asvel Maledon thinks to make the difference by signing 17 of his 25 points in the final stage. The home team places the decisive acceleration in the third quarter with a 20-2 run.
Oklahoma City: Maledon 25 (7/9, 2/4 of three, 5/5 tl), Mann, Roby 21. Rebounds: Krejci 11. Assist: Maledon 6.
