Starting next January 1, the playwright Laila Ripoll will be the new director of the National Classical Theater Company (CNTC), a unit dependent on the National Institute of Performing Arts and Music (Inaem), an autonomous body of the Ministry of Culture.
Your project has been imposed unanimous in the different phases of the process between 19 proposals submittedwhich have been submitted in their entirety to the evaluation of the Artistic Council of the Inaem Theater.
Laila Ripoll’s proposal seeks, from a deep commitment to the classics and public management, to consolidate the CNTC as a cornerstone in the production, dissemination and disclosure of the Golden Ageexpanding the influence it has generated in the Spanish artistic fabric during its almost 40 years of history, so that it continues to be “not only a great reference for the golden theater, but a cultural and artistic center of the first magnitude.”
Among the keys to the project are turning the Clásico into a reference institution not only artistically, but also in management, strengthening the identity of this Inaem production center as a public space, facilitating internal dialogue and listening spaces, and with rigor and transparency as guiding principles. Likewise, Ripoll is committed to leadership guided by shared team management. The new person in charge of the Company will limit her possible stage directions to a maximum of one production per seasona responsibility that will not be assumed before 2026.
Among the defining axes of his proposal are the contemporaneitywhich promotes a current reading of classic texts; the parityto defend effective equality between male and female creators, with special attention to the role of playwrights and adapters; inclusion, to ensure accessibility for both the public and creators with functional diversity; decentralization, which seeks to work on the presence of the Company throughout the territory of the State; and internationalization, with the promotion of the Spanish golden heritage for its regular presence in the main festivals in the world.
Regarding programming, Ripoll will promote between two and three own productions per season (one of them linked to the Joven CNTC) and is committed to including at least one unpublished title in the Company’s repertoire. It will also carry out co-productions and collaborations and aspires to showcase the work of prestigious guest companies, both national and foreign.
