Mexico City.– LadyDi’s former dance teacher Anne Allan has published intimate and heartbreaking details about the late princess in her memoir “Dancing with Diana.”
The Princess of Wales began learning ballet with her weeks after her famous royal wedding, but initial happiness soon gave way to sadness and discontent, according to Allan.
In 1986, during a class, Diana tearfully confessed to her friend and teacher: “I can’t do anything right when it comes to my husband… I think he prefers an older woman. I know he’s seeing Camilla again.” Diana’s marriage to Prince Charles, which began as a fairy tale, quickly deteriorated due to a lack of affection and infidelities. Allan recalled her frustration at not receiving the love she wanted from her husband, despite her efforts to please him.
A public display of this disconnect was the surprise performance Diana prepared with dancer Wayne Sleep in 1985 at the Royal Opera House. Despite the applause from the audience, Charles showed little interest, which left Diana visibly disappointed.
“She walked over to Charles and when she was in front of him I could sense that she desperately wanted his approval. He said, ‘Well done, darling,’ and turned away to speak to someone else,” Allan wrote. Things got worse when Diana faced the death of her alleged lover, bodyguard Brian Mannakee, in 1987. Despite rumours of her affair with Mannakee and later Major James Hewitt, Diana was still deeply affected by Charles’ indifference and his relationship with Camilla Parker. “All I want is to be with Charles and be loved by him, but there’s a void right now – he runs off with Camilla whenever he can. It’s not at all what I want. I wish the marriage would work, but at the moment it doesn’t. Should I just put up with it and hope it changes?” In her memoir, Allan describes how Diana also struggled with bulimia, a disorder that was made worse by pressure and problems in her marriage. “I could tell the palace had concerns and was aware, or at least suspicious, of the problem. I could tell they were perhaps worried it could be dangerous if someone in the outside world found out. The more I thought about it, the angrier I became,” she wrote. “Dancing with Diana” also reveals previously unseen details about Diana’s bravery in confronting Camilla at a party in 1989, asking her to stop interfering in her marriage. According to Allan, this was a key moment in the life of the Princess, who found the courage to stand her ground and confront her rival.
