Labor market The Confederation of Finnish Industries is blocking UPM to support the Paper Federation’s strike

The board of the Paper Association will meet on Friday to discuss the continuation of the strike that began at the beginning of the year.

Industry Association says it will put UPM on a blockade that will start next Tuesday and continue for the time being.

During the blockade, members of the Confederation of Finnish Industry will not go to work at UPM’s mills where the Paper Association has declared a strike.

According to the Confederation of Finnish Industry, the blockade eliminates, among other things, UPM’s ability to service and maintain its mill equipment during the Paper Federation’s strike with the help of outside labor.

In Saarro, the Confederation of Finnish Industry supports the strike of the Paper Association. The blockade does not apply to the UPM Plywood and UPM Timber businesses with which the Confederation of Finnish Industry has an agreement.

Industry Association the President Riku Aallon According to the Commission, there were no longer any alternatives to supportive industrial action, as “UPM has begun to reduce the working conditions of employees forced to work under the District Court Safeguards”.

In the press release, the Confederation of Finnish Industries says that, according to a report issued by the Paper Association, UPM no longer complies with a number of provisions of the expired collective agreement that have a positive effect on employees’ earnings.

“The opportunity made the company a thief,” says Aalto.

Wave also deplores the way in which UPM has sought to harness the Confederation of Finland’s business-specific collective agreements as part of its publicity strategy and demands on the Paper Association.

The Confederation of Finnish Industry and UPM agreed on working conditions in the sawmill and plywood operations in December.

The paper union’s strikes at UP’s mills will continue until 19 February. Tomorrow, Friday, the board of the Paper Association is scheduled to decide on further action.

No actual negotiations have taken place with UPM.
