The Community Leaders Network is a space that links different neighbors and referents of popular neighborhoods of the Conurbano with the aim of empowering them through training meetings and the generation of a support network that allows them to seek solutions to neighborhood problems .
The project was devised by María Eugenia Vidal when she was governor and was joined by other officials such as Carolina Stanley, Santiago López Medrano, Emmanuel Ferrario and Milagros Maylin. After the management in 2019, several of them emphasized the need to continue accompanying the neighborhoods, especially in the context of the pandemic.
This territorial presence helped Horacio Rodríguez Larreta to set foot in the Conurbano and project your figure beyond the City of Buenos Aires. And last week was the premiere on the show for Diego Santilli. The new candidate for deputy for the PRO in the Province highlighted the fundamental task that each of these people performs in their neighborhoods.
Rodriguez Larreta and Diego Santilli in the last presentation of the School of Leaders program led by vidalista Milagros Maylin.
“Because we believe that the true transformation of popular neighborhoods must come from the hand of their neighbors, since 2020 we are encouraged to dream and create this space accompanying all the people who are willing to leave everything for a better future. People with whom we are united by the same causes and the same values of work, listening, empathy, justice and the desire to move forward together, online, so that things start to happen ”, explains Milagros Maylin, one of the creators of the program and leader of the vidalista kidney.
For this reason, the origin of the Network was the formation of the “School of Leaders” where, with different groups of neighbors over two months, periodic meetings are held divided into two large blocks: the first addresses soft skills ( leadership, communication, emotion management), while the second focuses on the more technical aspects of the topics of greatest interest (childhood and adolescence, gender, safety, problematic consumption, socio-urban integration, productive enterprises).
“Almost two years ago we began to dream of an empowering space for people committed to their community. A space for meeting, teamwork, networking, where issues that really matter are worked on: leadership, community participation, communication, socio-urban integration, gender, safety, childhood and adolescence, problematic consumption. This is your network, our network, the one that unites us. That of each of the neighbors that makes it up and of those who want to join, “adds Stanley.
From the School of Leaders that, due to the context and depending on the current health protocols, alternated in person and virtually, invited professors such as Fabiana Tuñez, Pilar Molina, Vicente Ventura Barreiro, Roberto Moro, Victoria Morales Gorleri and Santiago López Medrano participate, among others.
Once the training of the first leaders, who came from Barracks IX in Lomas de Zamora, they began to take the trainings to their own neighborhoods being they the promoters of the School. In parallel, trainings were started in 8 other municipalities (Esteban Echeverría, La Matanza, San Martín, Morón, Avellaneda, Quilmes, Pilar and José C. Paz) with the aim of reaching more people.
Each leader trained becomes a member of the Community Leaders Network, to which they christened “La Marea” since they found their identity in the idea that everyone, despite their differences, shares the same values and wants to work together to promote change in each of their neighborhoods.
“The school of leaders is recognition, the meeting place for thousands of anonymous heroes from the suburbs who make things happen every day because they do not give everything the same and that is the effort, that commitment that we want to recognize and of which we want to learn and at the same time be able to strengthen, ”says Santiago López Medrano, one of the teachers and a reference of Juntos in the municipality of San Martin.
