The explosion of Pedro Acosta in the Moto3 world championship it did not go unnoticed in the paddock and it is no mystery that Valentino Rossi’s VR46 attempted an approach – rejected to the sender – towards the 17-year-old from Mazarron, to move to Moto2 as early as next season. These attentions prompted the KTM – mindful of what happened first with Jorge Martin and then with the detective story about Raul Fernandez – to define Acosta’s future well in advance, with the aim of binding his future until his arrival in MotoGP.
In the Silverstone paddock it emerged that KTM had Acosta signed a three-year agreement expiring in 2024, with the path already marked: a two-year period in Moto2 with the team of Ajo e the arrival in three seasons in the top class. But not only that, because – as suggested by Sky – KTM would like to tie also Miguel Oliveira until 2024, who has his contract expiring at the end of next year. And also Brad Binder has formalized the extension until the same date in June. With the arrival of Remy Gardner and Raul Fernandez in Tech3 for 2022, there will be a certain crowding of talents in KTM and only 4 bikes available. Only time will reveal what the handling of the situation will be by Pit Beirer, head of motorsport of the Mattighofen house, after what happened to Iker Lecuona and Danilo Petrucci, who learned of their grounding during the qualifying for the Styrian GP.
