From today we can finally play Kringthe latest effort of the great Ivan Venturione of the historic names in video game development in Italy, to whom we owe many titles published with Simulmondo, as well as countless others created subsequently, among which we like to mention the Commodore 64 version of F1 Manager and Simulgolf.
A crazy game
Kring is described as a weird clicker-arcade-adventure game consisting of over 10 different games. Available only on PC (Steam), it’s quite difficult to classify, even if it really promises well in terms of style and madness. In short, an arcade adventure clicker, a bit bullet hell, a bit platformer that flirts with beat’em ups and who knows how many other genres.
If this sounds crazy to you, Venturi describes the design process as completely random: “Kring was built piece by piece without following any initial plans or designs and every part of the game was made following what was going through the mind of an old guy who has been playing games for a while. Crazy, psychedelic minigames and insane game design. Read the instructions, please!”
How can you not be intrigued by it? The story is also one of those that involve a lot.: “As a lame God you are cursed to care for these… particularly unintelligent creatures. Raise, Nurture and Protect the Kring races to unlock the next ones (there are 9 of them, can you unlock them all???)” The final goal? “The cool Gods have insulted and mocked you for too long, show them who the real Super Cool God is!”
On Facebook, Venturi revealed that he has been developing Kring for the past 6 years, just for fun: “I did what I wanted to do when I wanted to do it. Consequently, the game is weird, crazy, cryptic.” He doesn’t expect big sales, considering it’s on only 540 wishlists, but let’s hope he’s proven wrong.
In the meantime, if you like The official demo can be downloaded on Steam. Try it because it’s worth it.
