For almost a year, Bobby Kotick has become the number one enemy of the video game industry. The CEO of ActivisionBlizzard He has been accused of abuse, inappropriate behavior and how he is partially responsible for the situation that exists within the company. Despite the fact that employees, members of the board of directors, the players and several politicians in the United States want this executive to leave, it was recently announced that Kotick will remain a member of the board of directors for at least one more year.
During the annual meeting of shareholders, the 647,887,763 representatives voted on a series of measures for the future of the company. One of the most important points was about keeping the current directors, or if changes are made. 533,703,580 voted for the permanence of the Boardwith only 62,597,199 against, while 2,162,178 abstained.
Plans to improve labor conditions and use measures to eliminate abuse and harassment in the workplace were also discussed at the same meeting. 379,308,934 voted in favor, while 183,876,515 voted against. 35,277,508 abstained entirely.
The interesting thing about all this is that the decision to keep Kotick until 2023, at least, is not part of the Official report which was shared on the Activision site. Instead, this information can be found in the legal document which aired on June 21. It seems that the company wants to hide this detail as much as possible.
On related issues, Activision Blizzard was sued by the state of New York. Similarly, the Raven Software union was not well received by the company.
Editor’s Note:
Although Activision Blizzard’s board of directors has decided to keep Bobby Kotick, it will be interesting to see what happens once the company is fully part of Microsoft. Xbox boss Phil Spencer has mentioned being unhappy with Kotick, so if Kotick isn’t fired, or at least sidelined, once this process is over, Xbox will have an image problem.
