The KNVB was hit by a cyber break-in on Saturday morning. It concerns a break-in on the ICT network at the KNVB Campus in Zeist, the head office. According to the union, cybercriminals have illegally obtained personal data from KNVB employees. About five hundred people work at the Dutch football association.
“More and more organizations are confronted with cybercrime. Despite our security system, the KNVB has now also fallen victim to this. We are particularly sorry that our employees may have to deal with this. Unfortunately, we don’t have better news at the moment. We are doing everything we can to limit the problems,” the KNVB management said in a short statement on Tuesday morning.
The union says that business operations and football are not disrupted and that e-mail systems, for example, have not been affected.
The cyber break-in has been reported to the Dutch Data Protection Authority. In addition, the KNVB has started a digital forensic investigation with a specialized agency to see which parts this has consequences for.
