Berlin – The concern about the rapid spread of the delta mutation is growing: One day before the European Championship round of 16 between Germany and England, the debate about controls on holiday returnees is gaining momentum. So observed SPD General Secretary Lars Klingbeil the unhindered travel of football fans through Europe with growing unease*. In spite of all the euphoria, he found the images of full spectators in the stadiums “strange”, he said in an exclusive interview with Kreiszeitung.de. He could well understand the displeasure of many parents who saw the celebrating fans without a mask and minimum distance and feared school closings again for the fall.

Klingbeil showed understanding for the desire to relax. Nevertheless, he warned against too much euphoria. “We have to be damn careful. Corona is not over yet, “said the General Secretary to Kreiszeitung.de. Nobody can predict the exact developments yet, but the next few weeks should be used to arm against a possible fourth wave of infections in Germany. The social democrat called for precautions to be taken, particularly with regard to daycare centers and schools.
First discovered in India Delta variant is considered highly contagious*. According to experts, however, one protects complete vaccination is sufficient*. However, many children and adolescents will not have adequate vaccination protection in autumn. Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn (CDU) had therefore speculated last week about a return to the alternate teaching model in the fall.

Klingbeil accused Federal Education Minister Anja Karliczek in particular of “lack of ambition”. The social democrat criticized the government and states that they “slept through” the implementation of the digital pact by the federal and state governments for years. But even in her last years as Chancellor, Chancellor Angela Merkel no longer had the strength to initiate major changes in the country.
Klingbeil is also not hoping that Union Crown Prince Armin Laschet could advance the issue. “Merkel’s footsteps are too big for him,” said Klingbeil about the chances of Chancellor candidate Laschet, who is currently ahead of his opponents in the polls Annalena Baerbock* (Greens) and Vice Chancellor Olaf Scholz* (SPD) lies. Nevertheless, in an interview with Kreiszeitung.de, Klingbeil was still confident about the next 90 days in the election campaign.
