The decree of Alberto Fernandez To expand the agenda of the extraordinary sessions in Congress, which includes the possibility of discussing the electoral calendar and suspending the PASO, it surprised Kirchnerism, several of the members of the Frente de Todos and generated tension in the bowels of the ruling party.
“Until Maximum (Kirchner) he found out from Clarín”, Acknowledged an official and member of La Cámpora of permanent dialogue with the president of the block of deputies of the FdT. The vice president Cristina Kirchner he was not aware either. The same sources insist that the Minister of the Interior Eduardo “Wado” by Pedro, in charge of organizing the elections and the top camper reference in the Casa Rosada, also ignored the decree anticipated by this newspaper and that, until Saturday night, had not yet been published in the Official Gazette.
In La Cámpora they lamented the lack of internal dialogue in the ruling coalition. “There is no real communication between the Executive and any presidency of any bloc,” they sentenced.
There were no subsequent meetings or communications to reproach the lack of coordination. Hermeticism prevailed in Olivos. Executive officials made it known that the Lower House already knew about the news.
The idea that six governors representing the 21 who initially supported the measure hold a meeting with the president of the Deputies Sergio Massa and with the head of the Senate Cristina Kirchner for now it does not have the endorsement of the vice president.
One of the legislative swords of the ruling party affirmed that in La Rioja the governors of the north transmitted to the President the idea that two leaders of the PJ, the Tucuman Juan Manzur and the chaqueño Jorge Capitanich; two governors of provincial parties, the Rio Negro Arabela Racing and the missionary Oscar Herrera Ahuad; and two from Together for Change, the Jujuy Gerardo Morales placeholder image and the correntino Gustavo Valdes they would go to Congress to ask for the initiative. However, the information was denied by those close to the radical governors, who accompany the measure, but are not willing to lead the claim that the majority of the opposition rejects.
In the Ministry of the Interior, in charge of organizing the elections, they downplayed the short circuits. “We continue working on the current schedule. If there is consensus to change or suspend them, then we will adapt. From the Executive Branch we did not close the possibility of seeking consensus, which must be done in Congress, which is why the possibility of dealing with it was enabled. Meanwhile we continue working to guarantee what the current law establishes ”, they specified in the surroundings of De Pedro.
The message is the same that they have kept in the political portfolio since last year: the PASO, for now, are maintained.
In La Cámpora they argue that there is currently no clear bill to discuss, they emphasize that they would not be any of those who have appeared so far in Deputies. There are at least four alternatives in the making. The first is to suspend the primary one time only. The second is to run the PASO from August to September.
Another option is to eliminate the mandatory nature of the primaries or make them only necessary for the electoral fronts that decide candidacies. In all cases the formal excuse is the health emergency. The political arguments are different: from giving more air to the national and provincial officials to make the economy rebound and complicate the internal opposition.
It is also unclear in which House the debate would begin. The weight of the governors is concentrated in the Senate, chaired by Cristina Kirchner, who is currently opposed to the initiative. In Deputies the ruling party could get the necessary number as long as Máximo Kirchner ranks his bench.
One of the members of the Frente de Todos believes that for the initiative to gain momentum, a method of creating lists should first be discussed among the ruling party allies, in June or August.
With STEP or without STEP – something unlikely due to the lack of consensus of his own and of others – Máximo Kirchner remains firm in his intention to preside over the Buenos Aires PJ. The Cámpora will seek to compete in all districts.
In Massa’s environment, they maintain that the leader of the Renovador Front knew about the expansion of the agenda, but not about its content. The President of the Deputies remains aloof because of his institutional role, although last year in San Juan he maintained that he would prefer that the money from the primaries be invested in vaccines. The Tigrense shared a trip to Pinamar on Friday with the Buenos Aires governor Axel Kicillof, who, although he originally supported the initiative, also found out when it was consummated. In the presidential environment there was silence.
