Thanks to an interview granted by Tobias Stolz-Zwilling, PR manager of Warhorse Studios, some new interesting details have arrived on Kingdom Come Deliverance 2particularly with regards to combat systemthe responsiveness of the game world to the player's actions and the use of CryEngine graphics engine.
As regards the first point, the first-person combat system so appreciated in the first chapter of the series will also return in Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, with some adjustments and changes by the developers to make it more accessible but without affecting its depth and the feeling of realism.
“It's important to say that we stayed true to what the first Kingdom Come Deliverance and Warhorse were about trying to represent a real medieval fight“, Stolz-Zwilling told Wccftech.
“That said, we've made some changes to the combat system and tried to make it more accessible, while still retaining the feeling of realism you get. We want the combat to be hard and heavy, but also easy to manage. You should feel the weight of your weapon and every blow you deliver. If you take a club, for example, you can make your way through enemy lines without thinking about tricks and combos. However, if you really want to delve into the system, learning all the tricks and secrets, then the choice would be a longsword, which offers a more sophisticated approach.”
Never change a winning team
As we know Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 is in development with CryEnginea peculiar choice considering that many studios are moving towards Unreal Engine 5. The reasons behind this decision are actually simple, namely the experience gained by the team with the previous game, the Crytek graphics engine and the customizations made During the years.
“The simplest answer would be that we stayed with CryEngine because all our internal pipelines are built around it. And I'm sure every developer on earth complains about the engine they're using and dreams of something different: it's the natural way of things. ”
However, already in the first days of development of the first Kingdom Come Deliverance, we have heavily adapted the CryEngine to make it suitable for our needs, and we are still doing it today. I'm sure it's very different from what you might call “a CryEngine”, but we're still happy to have it: it does what we need it to do, and in all honesty. If you look at the first KCD, I firmly believe that the game has visually aged very well thanks to the engine.
Finally, Warehorse's PR talked about the progress made in terms of interactions between player, game world and NPCs.
“We don't spawn any NPCs magically behind your back. So, if an NPC sees you committing a crime, he will confront you directly (depending on his stats, your stats, your appearance, your reputation – as you can see there are a lot of RPG elements), or he will run away, calling the nearest guard who will try to catch you,” Stolz-Zwilling added.
“If you happen to have left when the guard arrived, NPCs in the area will be more alert than before and passing thieving skill checks may be more difficult. But that goes either way. If you find yourself with a 'bloody weapon next to a poor victim, they might link the crime to you. the world should offer more random encountersor people shouting something at you… now you can also give a quick reply in a new mode that allows you to select a quick reply with a button and allows you to interact with the world of Kindom Come Deliverance more naturally without getting stuck in a dialog screen.
We remind you that Kingdom Come Deliverance 2 will be available on PS5, Xbox Series 2024. If you haven't already done so, we suggest you read our preview with everything we know about the new Warhorse RPG.
