King Charles III of the United Kingdom has been diagnosed with a type of cancer, according to Buckingham Palace on Monday (5).
The 75-year-old British royal had a recent hospital stay to treat a growth on his prostate. However, sources consulted by Reuters denied that the type of disease was related to the treatment given by the monarch.
“His Majesty began a schedule of regular treatments today, during which he was advised by doctors to postpone public service duties,” the palace wrote. Still in the announcement, it was informed that the king chose to publicize the diagnosis “to avoid speculation and in the hope that it may help public understanding of all people affected by cancer around the world”.
With the current health situation, the king will step away from public duties while he is undergoing treatment. “He remains completely positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to public service as soon as possible.”
