Ukraine puts the number of Russian soldiers who have died at 11,000, while the Kremlin forces lower them to 498
Russia and Ukraine maintain a parallel war over the numbers of casualties and wounded, with calculations that are far from similar. From Kiev, the Government of Volodímir Zelenski, numbered 11,000 Russian soldiers who have died since the invasion began. Human losses to which are added, always according to the Ukrainian version, the destruction of 285 tanks, 109 artillery systems and 48 enemy helicopters.
The data is very far from matching those offered by the Kremlin, which until Monday had only confirmed the death of 498 members of its Army. Instead, Moscow estimates that it has destroyed 2,200 military targets since the start of what it calls a “special operation in Ukraine,” Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov reported on Sunday. Specifically, he claims to have destroyed 76 command centers, 111 anti-aircraft missile systems, 71 radar stations, 69 combat aircraft on airfields and 24 more in the air, 62 drones.
None of these figures could be confirmed and should be taken on suspicion of propaganda. The United States, in a first estimate that it made during the first four days of the invasion, limited itself to numbering between 1,500 and 2,000 fallen Russian soldiers, but since then, the Administration led by President Joe Biden has ruled out reporting, for now, of casualties on both sides, according to ‘The New York Times’.
The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, for its part, reported Monday that 406 Ukrainian civilians had died. Of these deaths, at least 27 correspond to minors, while among the estimated 1,207 injured there are more than 40 children.
The regions of Donetsk and Lugansk, in eastern Ukraine, accumulate almost half of the victims, with 93 dead and 435 injured in total, according to the UN, which attributes most of the personal damage to the use of weapons and susceptible operations. of “indiscriminately affecting large areas”.
However, these calculations are still too low for the Government of Ukraine. Proof of this is that it raises its latest update of deceased civilians to more than 2,000.
