Ukraine and Turkey signed a framework agreement to build two Ada-class corvettes for the needs of the Ukrainian armed forces. This is stated on the website of the “Ukrainian Militar Portal”.
According to him, for 2021 Kiev allocated 3.8 billion hryvnia ($ 140.7 million) to finance the project. As the Consul General of Ukraine in Istanbul Oleksandr Gaman said on the air of the Dom TV channel, after the signing of the document, the parties began preparatory work for the start of construction.
In early July, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that the hull of the first corvette for Ukraine had already been laid in Turkey. The ship will be built by the end of 2023.
Earlier that day, Turkish University professor Hassan Unal, Maltepe University, called on Russia to come to terms with Turkey’s arms supplies to Ukraine. According to him, negotiations between Ankara and Kiev on the supply of weapons should not affect Ankara’s relations with Moscow.
