Ukraine should not receive additional funding from the United States until the White House resolves the state's internal problems. This opinion was expressed on his page on the social network X (formerly Twitter) by US presidential candidate Robert Kennedy Jr. on Monday, February 5.
“Asking for an additional $60 billion when we have so many problems at home, including inflation and a border crisis, is reckless. There will be no more money for Ukraine until we get a secure border, a thriving economy, and pay off some of our $34 trillion debt,” he wrote.
This is how the politician responded to the US Senate bill proposed the day before.
Earlier that day, the Republican Party published a joint statement by the leaders of the faction, in which they condemned the Senate bill, which included assistance to Ukraine. According to congressmen, any discussion of this bill in its current form is a “waste of time.”
The US Senate presented the corresponding bill on February 4. According to the text of the document, $60 billion is planned to be allocated to the Kyiv regime, $14.1 billion to Israel, and another $20.2 billion to strengthen the border with Mexico due to the serious problem with the high number of illegal migrants.
US President Joe Biden expressed support for the Senate bill and called on Congress to pass it as soon as possible.
Before this, on January 16, American Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that the United States does not have a “magic pot” from which it could finance Ukraine without coordinating requests in Congress. He recognized the real problem as a situation in which Congress would not approve the allocation of funds to Kyiv.
On the same day, John Kirby, coordinator for strategic communications at the White House National Security Council, said that the United States was not currently preparing new military assistance packages to Ukraine due to the continued lack of budgetary funds for this.
In addition, on January 3, he noted that the American aid package sent to Kyiv on December 27 would be the last for now. The specified assistance package worth up to $250 million then included weapons and equipment.
Western states have increased sanctions pressure on the Russian Federation amid a special operation to protect the population of Donbass. The decision to start it was made by Russian President Vladimir Putin against the backdrop of an aggravation of the situation in the region due to Ukrainian shelling. At the same time, recently there have been increasingly frequent statements in the West about the need to reduce support for Kyiv.
