The national president of the PSD, Gilberto Kassab, reaffirmed this Sunday, 12, that he hopes that the current governor of Rio Grande do Sul, Eduardo Leite, will be a candidate for president of the Republic in the October election.
“The PSD will have a candidate for president of the Republic and I hope it will be Eduardo Leite”, said Kassab during a ceremony held in Rio de Janeiro, for Felipe Santa Cruz’s affiliation to the party. The lawyer and former national president of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB) is a pre-candidate for governor of Rio.
Kassab focused his speech on praising Santa Cruz and the mayor of Rio, Eduardo Paes, state president of the PSD, but spoke briefly about Leite’s candidacy for president.
The gaucho governor, who is a member of the PSDB and lost the party’s primaries to the governor of São Paulo, João Dória, is courted by Kassab. Leite, who was not at the event, has not yet announced whether he will run for re-election or run for president.
