To conclude the week, Pablo Motos received actress Karla Sofía Gascón for the first time in El Hormiguero, who presented her new film, the musical Emilia Perezwhich will be released in theaters on December 5.
The performer was recognized for her work in this film at the last Cannes Film Festival with the award for best actress ex aequo along with her co-stars, the Jury award and a long nine-minute ovation after her presentation to the public.
“You come to present a film that France is going to send to the Oscars and in some places they say that you are the favorite to win. You would be the first trans woman to do so, how do you feel?” the presenter told her.
The guest replied: “I don’t like adjectives, maybe I’m also the tallest. It’s true that I am what I am, I’m a woman who has transitioned, but a woman.”
“I have had to develop despite the hatred of many people. If adjectives are used to praise a minority that is beaten, I thank you,” he said.
“Have you suffered hatred for being trans?” the Valencian told him. “Yes, I have suffered it to the extreme. In Mexico they have threatened to dismember me and throw me in a garbage bag,” recalled Karla Sofía Gascón.
Then, Motos told him how this situation could be improved for trans people. “By being good people and doing things well from now on. We can all be better people from now on,” he responded.
The presenter also pointed out that, in the film, the actress plays a drug trafficker and then a woman: “What did it feel like to play a male role?”
“I didn’t feel anything special. The only thing I do is as an actress, play a character. The more different from me the better. But my characters are not me, I only lend them my soul to reach the public,” she said.
