There is traditionally a lot of speculation at and about FC Bayern. About possible exits (Alaba, Boateng, Sané) and possible additions (Upamecano). Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has taken a position on this. Quite vague in the case of Upamecano and Boateng, more than clear in Leroy Sané.
FC Bayern has to budget – like all other clubs. Because the Corona crisis is also noticeable on the notorious Bavarian fixed-term deposit account. The chairman of the board, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, also says: “In times of Corona, the cash position is also an important factor,” said the 65-year-old at Picture live.
Nevertheless, after the current season, the record champions have to restructure their defensive personnel a little. That results from the well-decided departure of defense chief David Alaba. The contract with Jerome Boateng also expires at the end of the season.
Rummenigge says that his departure has already been sealed – reports about this came out at the end of 2020. Rather, the club wants to have talks with the central defender as soon as possible: “Jerome is playing a good role again. The coach is satisfied with him. You will therefore have to ask yourself this question in a conversation with him,” explains Rummenigge when asked about a contract extension with the 32nd member -Year-olds. Sounds like everything is still open here.
The name Dayot Upamecano is repeatedly traded as a replacement for David Alaba. Logical, after all, the Frenchman is one of the best defenders in the league or even in Europe. At only 22 years of age, still capable of development and available with his exit clause in the contract. However, the FCB would have to transfer a whopping 42.5 million euros to RB Leipzig. This is where the aforementioned financial shackles come into play.
Rummenigge is deliberately keeping a low profile when it comes to Upamecano transfer, but at least admits that he is being dealt with: “We will of course deal with this, not only with these people, but fundamentally in which positions we want to and do something Rummenigge added that it was “a bit early” to talk about a fixed transfer.
One way of getting cash into the till is through player sales. Above all Corentin Tolisso should be on the sales list. Recently there were even rumors that FCB could part with Leroy Sané again. Rummenigge refers it to the realm of fables: “He has a five-year contract. That would be nonsense. We need this type of player. He will of course stay with FC Bayern. And I am convinced that he will make his way here.”
At least here is a crystal clear statement that leaves no room for speculation. Why also? Sané came as a king transfer, with which one plans long-term. In terms of market value, it is even for a relatively cheap 45 million euros. The potential of the winger is beyond question. After his cruciate ligament rupture and other minor injuries, you want to give him more time to exhaust his full potential in the new environment. And that’s good and right!
