Colombia.- Karen ‘O’ is the name of a 31-year-old woman who watched her 9-year-old stepson and 35-year-old husband die in a short period of time, everyone initially thought they were the product of strange diseases until researchers discovered it thanks to Google.
The Google searches were the main clue to determine that Karen killed her husband and stepson, because there was information about the use of coolant, a substance that caused multiple organ failure in both victims.
A marriage with tragedies
The couple’s story began on July 12, 2019, when nine-year-old Elías ‘A’ died at the Humberto Notti Pediatric Hospital. Official information from the local Prosecutor’s Office indicated that the cause of death was a cerebral thrombosis associated with a “strange” failure in his body.
A year later Rolando, his father, married Karen in what according to the local media ‘Mendoza Post’, who quoted citizens of Guaymallén, Argentina, seemed to be extremely happy and never saw them argue.
Another year later, tragedy returned to the lives of Argentines when the man died suddenly from what was then considered poisoning.
The pattern between the minor and the adult alerted the agents, who asked a necropsy to the body of life to find out what was the substance that caused the death. The investigation shed ethylene glycol in the bodya substance commonly used in engine coolant.
Thus, the woman came to be considered the main suspect, an approach that gained strength when the investigators analyzed his Google searches, where he consulted “what was the deadliest poison”, “how to kill with poison”, “ethylene glycol”plus “how to delete browsing history”.
