Atlanta.- Kirk Cousins took over the Falcons’ offense with 2:26 left at their own 35-yard line. He drove to the Chiefs’ 16 with 55 seconds left, but then hit a wall.
The two-time champions’ defense held off the Falcons on Sunday night in their attempt to turn the game around. Kansas City remains undefeated after defeating Atlanta 22-17 in Sunday night’s game.
The Chiefs had not started 3-0 since the 2020 season. The Falcons’ offensive plays failed to work in key moments as they failed on their last two drives. They reached the red zone on both drives without scoring a point, and Cousins couldn’t outdue Patrick Mahomes, who finished with 217 yards, two touchdown passes and an interception. The Chiefs quarterback also rushed for 17 yards in the game.
Kicker Harrison Butker made three field goals, from 53, 44 and 21 yards. Kansas City went scoreless in the fourth quarter, but was not bothered by the Falcons’ ineffectiveness. The two-time champions committed several penalties on the opponent’s final offensive series, which helped Atlanta get into the red zone.
The problem was that they couldn’t gain a yard on third down and then a few inches on fourth down, which gave possession back to the visitors.
