VideoHarry Kane struck four times in one half tonight in the World Cup qualifier against San Marino. This puts the English striker next to Gary Lineker on the eternal top scorers list of England: 48 hits. England went on to win 0-10.

Lineker responded on Twitter with a wink: ‘Welcome to the club of 48, Harry. I expect your membership to expire in a few minutes, but it was a pleasure to have you there.”
Kane needs one more goal to equal legend Sir Bobby Charlton. Wayne Rooney, who has 53 goals, is England’s all-time top scorer. For Kane it was his second top production in three days. The Tottenham Hotspur attacker scored three times in Friday’s home game against Albania (5-0).
It seems that every year we are getting stronger with the national team
Kane now stands at 16 goals in 2021, breaking a 94-year-old record. Dixie Dean scored 12 goals in 1927, just as George Hilsdon did in 1908.
England took office at Serravalle with seven changes to the starting squad from the team that started against Albania on Friday. Kane, Harry Maguire, Kalvin Phillips and Phil Foden had kept their places in the team. Goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale (Arsenal) made his debut. His teammate Emile Smith Rowe was a starting player in the national team for the first time.
The Spurs striker scored twice from a penalty tonight. The other goals from England came in the name of Harry Maguire, Filippo Fabbri (own goal), Smith Rowe, Tyrone Mings, Tammy Abraham and Bukayo Saka. San Marino had to continue at a score of 0-7 with ten men after the second yellow card for Dante Rossi. The unbeaten British closed the group stage with 26 points from ten matches. The home game against San Marino was previously won 5-0. Poland only had a theoretical chance of the group win and with it the World Cup ticket. The number 2 of the group lost 2-1 to Hungary in Warsaw.
“I am proud every time I put on the England shirt,” said Kane, who lost to Italy last summer with England in the European Championship final. ,,And if I also score, that is a wonderful feeling. But we will have to keep working hard. It seems that every year we are getting stronger with the national team. We should take advantage of that. But that is only possible if we keep improving ourselves during the training sessions.”
The result in San Marino was a record win for England in a serious game. The team of national coach Gareth Southgate thus secured a ticket for the World Cup in Qatar next year.
