The activities of the eleventh session of the Short Plays Festival, organized by the Department of Culture, continued, as the Cultural Center in Kalba witnessed an open dialogue meeting with the festival’s personality, the artist Youssef Al-Kaabi, in addition to the presentation of three plays.
The dialogue was presented and moderated by the artist, Dr. Ali Al-Shaloubi, who reviewed part of Al-Kaabi’s journey in managing the “Khor Fakkan Theater” troupe, and said that he contributed to increasing and developing the performances produced by the troupe, and attracted distinguished local theatrical energies to help raise the artistic level of the troupe’s work.
Al-Shaloubi mentioned a group of theatrical works that Al-Kaabi shared with him and others in the Eastern Region, noting that Al-Kaabi succeeded in establishing his name as a prominent comedian, and was known for his commitment to schedules and his keenness to develop his capabilities.
At the beginning of his speech, Al Kaabi extended his sincere thanks and gratitude to His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah, patron of theater and playwrights, appreciating the efforts of the Department of Culture and its initiatives to enrich and develop the theatrical arena with innovative and inspiring activities. He expressed his happiness at being chosen as the character of this edition of the festival, and told about his theatrical beginnings.
He said that his sense of comedy is due to his influence by his father, “may God have mercy on him,” who was known for his comic personality, noting that he grew up in the city of Khor Fakkan.
In the program of performances, the audience witnessed the play “Good Morning,” adapted from the play “Sunny Morning” by the Alvarez Contero brothers, directed by Jassim Al Tamimi, and co-starring Ahmed Bakr, Muhammad Al Balushi, Enas Ezzat, and Malak Bakhtawi.
The critical symposium that followed the show praised the director’s use of cubes in drawing the show’s environment and the chemistry between the actors. Jordanian director Omar Al-Damour said, “The work takes us on a journey to the future, through an angry meeting between a man and a woman.”
The second show was titled “The Other Side,” based on the play “The Marriage Nest” by the English writer Cedric Mount. It was directed by Maryam Al-Zarouni, and co-starred by Mahra Muhammad Habib, George Afisa, Maryam Al-Fahd, Judy Sameh, Abdul Wahab Al-Hosani, Abu Al-Hamad Tahami, and Muhammad Nour. The show revolves around a couple who wanted to live a life beyond their means, so they accumulated debts, and then their house collapsed.
The Egyptian actress Sandra Sameh spoke at the show’s critical seminar, who thanked the effort of the show team, appreciated the message contained in the show, and praised the simplicity and spontaneity in actress Mahra’s performance.
The third show was titled “The Farewell Song,” written by Anton Chekhov, directed by Talal Qambar Al-Balushi, and co-starring Muhammad Anwar, Khaled Fahd, Khawla Abdul Salam, Mansour Nasser, Muhammad Hassan, Ishaq Youssef, Youssef Sayadi, Muhammad Shamiyeh, Ahmed Siddiq, and Muhammad Salah. .
Jordanian director Omar Al-Enezi spoke at his critical symposium, who expressed his influence and admiration for the directorial formulation, acting performance, and lighting design, noting that he had previously presented the same work, which tells of a theatrical actor who has become old and is recalling the days of his fading glory.
