Juventus, investigation into capital gains: new carpet searches
The Turin prosecutor’s office carried out new searches throughout Italy as part of theinvestigation into Juventus’ alleged capital gains, which involves the leaders of the Juventus club. This time the intervention concerned the salary management for players during the first phase of the pandemic. According to the judges, “concrete clues have emerged about the existence of multiple private deeds” between the club and the players’ representatives that are not “deposited with the competent bodies”.
The searches, aimed at finding the papers, were ordered against a lawyer who works in the Turin law firm Weigmann, three professionals working in the Milanese law firm Withers, a lawyer from the Milanese law firm Legance, a professional from Rome . Law firms are not involved in the investigation and the lawyers in question are not investigated.
The papers certifying the private deeds to agree on salary reductions and additions were not found during previous searches in the Juve headquarters. According to the investigation documents, it is common practice to keep certain confidential documents off-site and then proceed to their elimination once their guarantee purpose is exhausted.
According to the prosecutor, contrary to what Juventus claimed, with regard to the “salary maneuver” of 2019-20 it would not be the “waiver of four months’ salary”, as it appears in the financial report of 30 June 2020, but a simple deferral of three out of four salaries. The doubts of the judges persist about the accounting path followed by the Piedmontese club.
