Juve, Agnelli met privately with other Serie A presidents
A “confidential meeting” between Andrea Agnelli and exponents of six Serie A teams in the presence of the leaders of the Serie A League and the FIGC, which the Juventus president commented the following day: “I hope something useful will emerge, otherwise we will crash slowly”. There is also this episode (dating back to 23 September 2021) in the documents of the investigation into Juventus’ accounts, inserted. The Prosecutor of Turin spoke about it in the passage of the request for pre-trial detention, advanced in June, dedicated to alleged ‘partnership’ relationships of the Juventus club with other Italian and foreign clubs.
The magistrates reconstructed the meeting through the monitoring, carried out by the financial police, of Agnelli’s telephone numbers. According to what has been reconstructed, the meeting was held in an estate in Fiano (Turin), inside the park of the Mandria. “They would have participated – reads the dossier – Luca Percassi, CEO of Atalanta; Enrico Preziosi, president of Genoa; Joseph Marotta, former CEO of the Juventus club and current CEO of Inter; Paul Scaroni, president of the Milan board of directors; Stefano Campoccia, vice president of Udinese; Claudio Fenucci, managing director of Bologna”. “Paolo Dal Pino, president of the Serie A football league, and Gabriele Gravina, president of the FIGC, also appeared to have taken part in the meeting – the magistrates continued”. The magistrates noted that the following day of the meeting, in a telephone conversation, Agnelli “reports verbatim: ‘I only hope that since yesterday evening … the presence of Gabriele and Paolo was useful … I hope that something will emerge because otherwise I don’t know what to do, we talked about it you and me when we met here in the office. Now this element must be a harbinger of something useful because otherwise we will crash slowly”. “On the sidelines of the conversation – the prosecutors continue – Andrea Agnelli reiterates that the fundamental objective is to increase the revenues of Italian football”.
Juventus, pm: criminal context of alarming seriousness
“A criminal context of alarming seriousness, having faced unlawful conduct, repeated and protracted over time, for three years, of undoubted weight”. This is how the Turin prosecutor’s office describes the financial operations of Juventus, at the center of a maxi investigation involving the top management of the company. In asking the judge to apply the interdictory measures against the thirteen suspects (later denied by the investigating magistrate, who did not recognize the conditions), the prosecutors write: “The crimes analyzed () for the effective methods of implementation, outline a ‘high subjective danger of offenders, making the danger undeniably real that they, should the occasion arise, continue to commit a crime”. However, the investigating judge ruled out the possibility of repeating the offense and for this reason did not deem it necessary to issue the measures requested by the prosecutors.
Juventus, pm: took advantage of Covid for corrective maneuvers
“The spread of Covid-19 would have allowed Juventus “to give formal coverage to corrective maneuvers (such as the so-called salary maneuver) that had already been planned and made necessary by the company’s serious financial situation, well before the suspension of matches due to Covid” This is the thesis supported by the Turin Public Prosecutor’s Office, which requested the trial of thirteen Juventus managers accused, for various reasons, of false accounting, market rigging, obstacle to Consob supervision and false invoices. According to the reconstruction of the magistrates, in particular , for the investigators, Juventus’ financial crisis “pre-existed the suspension of competitions, so much so that there had already been talk of” corrective actions which then found formal coverage precisely in Covid “. In the hands of the magistrates there are numerous interceptions involving the top management of the company. On 2 September 2021, for example, the former Juventus president Andrea Agnelli thus addressed the former CEO Maurizio Arrivabene: “It wasn’t just Covid and we know this well! () Because we have two fundamental elements: from on the one hand Covid, but on the other we have flooded the machine with depreciation [.] And above all the shit…because all the shit underneath that you can’t tell”.
