Dubai (Union)
Within the framework of the scientific and cultural exchange between the Juma Al Majid Center and international cultural and scientific institutions, Mohamed Kamel Gad, Director General of the Center, visited the Dominican Fathers Institute of Oriental Studies in Cairo, and was received by Emmanuel Pisani, Director of the Institute, John Druel, Researcher and Director of the Diamond Program, and Director of the Institute Previously, and Engy El-Gammal, Head of Cataloging Department at the Institute.
The visit began with a presentation of the history of the Institute, and a review of its contents from various cultural receptacles, as its library is one of the most prominent libraries specialized in Islamic studies in the world, with about 150 thousand books and 1800 periodical titles.
Gad listened to a detailed explanation of the institute’s indexing systems, specifically the Diamond ILS system, which was developed by the institute by applying the FRBR standards, the precise technical solutions it provides, the international institutions working on it, and the future vision for its development. The meeting touched upon aspects of joint cooperation between Juma Al Majid Center for Culture and Heritage in Dubai and the Institute in common areas and ways to enhance them in the future.
It is noteworthy that the institute belongs to the Dominican monastery, which was established in Cairo in 1930, as a branch of the monastery located in Jerusalem, and then became independent. The Institute is interested in a large number of researchers and scholars in the world.
