The judo team concluded its participation in the Paris Grand Slam Judo Championship, which concluded yesterday evening, hosted by the French Federation, and which represents the first International Judo Federation tournament for the year 2024, with the participation of 107 countries, including 10 Arab countries.
The French team won the championship title with 6 golds, the young Japanese team came second with 3 golds, and the German team came third with two golds.
The UAE national team ranked first in the Arab world and eighteenth in the world, which represents a success that was praised, with our young player Narmond Bayan winning third bronze place in the (under 66 kg) competition, which witnessed the participation of 60 players.
Bashirat Kharudi, who participated in the (under 52 kg) competition, ranked fifth with the participation of 38 of the most prominent players, while Dhafer Aram (under 100 kg) in the heavyweight category took seventh place in the group standings, which witnessed the participation of 45 of the most prominent players. Ranked in the world, our team has increased its qualification points for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
This week, our first judo team will begin its camp in Georgia as part of its annual program in preparation for the next Olympics. This February will witness the participation of players Karim Abdul Latif (under 73 kg) and Zafer Aram (under 100 kg) in the heavyweight category in the Baku Grand Slam tournament, which It will be held in Azerbaijan from February 16 to 18.
The list of participants in the tournament has so far witnessed the advancement of 59 countries, including 3 Gulf Arab countries, namely the Emirates, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia. The tournament will be followed by the establishment of another camp in Uzbekistan in preparation for participation in the Tashkent Grand Slam Judo Championship, which will be held during the period from the first to the third of next March. , which offers 41 countries to participate, including 4 Arab countries represented by the teams of the Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Morocco.
These camps and external participations come within the program to prepare the first team for the Paris Olympics, for which 5 male and female UAE judo players qualified as a historic achievement, and are preceded by hosting the World Judo Championship in Abu Dhabi from 18 to 24 May next, as the conclusion of the qualifying tournaments for the next Olympics.
