Judgments | Marijuana was brought to Finland hidden in water heaters – long sentences for the drug ring

The drug brought from Spain via Estonia was intended to be distributed mainly in the capital region.

Set on Tuesday, men aged between 25 and 50 were sentenced to long prison terms for, among other things, aggravated drug offenses and aggravated firearms offences. The convicts were supposed to distribute around 150 kilos of marijuana mostly in the capital area.

Marijuana was transported in trucks hidden inside hot water heaters. At the Finnish end, the goods were processed in Tuusula, Espoo and Turku, for example. The events take place in 2021.

In extensive searches related to smuggling, the police found, in addition to marijuana, other narcotic substances and medicinal substances considered to be narcotic substances, including tablets containing alprazolam, clonazepam and diazepam, as well as ketamine.

With were sentenced for drug crimes and aggravated drug crimes. Two members of the ring also received sentences for aggravated firearm crimes.

The duo had, among other things, a Sako brand assault rifle with serial fire functions and a Carl Gustav brand with serial fire functions and a silencer-equipped machine gun without a possession permit.

In addition, they were in possession of seven assault rifle magazines, each containing 200 rounds, and two machine gun magazines, one of which contained nine millimeter rounds, in violation of the Firearms Act.

The men also had a Desert Eagle .44 Magnum pistol and 37 other cartridges and gas atomizers in their possession.

Court of Appeal mostly upheld the previous judgments of the district court. Jan Kristian Silfver was sentenced to seven years in prison, Mikko Henrikki Eskonpoika Kauppinen for six years and ten months, Jesse Antti Aleksi Jakonen for six years ten months and Jon Benjamin Kustaa Mattila for six years and six months.

Abdirahmin Suleiman Dinle was sentenced to four years and one month in prison, Hamsa Suleiman Dinle for three years and eight months and Jani Pekka Mikael Silanen for three years and six months.

In addition, the Court of Appeal read two lighter sentences.

Judgments can be appealed to the Supreme Court.
