A Canadian judge has ordered truck drivers who have been blocking the main land crossing between the United States and Canada, the Ambassador Bridge, for five days, to withdraw from the site Friday night.
The magistrate’s order opens the door for Canadian authorities to use police force to evacuate truck drivers, who oppose measures against the pandemic.
The Ontario Superior Court judge reviewed the request filed by the Automobile Component Manufacturers Association of Canada to order an end to the lockdown and issued an ultimatum to truckers to withdraw from the Ambassador bridge.
At the same time, Windsor hospitals declared themselves on alert for the possibility of a “code orange” occurring when there are a high number of victims.
The Canadian province of Ontario declared a state of emergency on Friday due to the blockade of the Ambassador Bridge and the occupation of downtown Ottawa by truck drivers who are against vaccination passports.
Two other US border crossings, in central and western Canada, are also blocked.
