Ciudad Juarez.- For behaviors such as parking illegally and obstructing traffic, not picking up pet feces on the street and “being absorbed in their phone in public,” Ciudad Juárez was ranked as the fourth most rude city in Mexico, according to a study by the language app Preply.
The first places are occupied by cities in the center of the country, such as Mexico City, Nezahualcóyotl and Puebla, while the most educated were Saltillo, San Luis Potosí and Toluca.
“Are Mexicans rude?” begins Preply’s brief report.
Surveys were conducted with app users residing in Mexico to identify 12 common rude behaviors in the region where they live.
While Mexico City received a score of 6.79 for rudeness (out of 10 possible), Ciudad Neza had 6.77, followed by 6.53 for Puebla and 6.50 for Juárez –which shares with León, Guanajuato–.
Monterrey, Mérida, Guadalajara, Zapopan, Mexicali and Ecatepec also achieved a place in the bad manners classification.
The main fault of Mexicans in the eyes of their own inhabitants is leaving cars badly parked and obstructing traffic, as well as not picking up dog feces, not serving people because they answer the phone, throwing papers or dirtying the public road and not giving up their seat on public transportation.
It was also assessed that lanes reserved for public transport or bicycles are not respected, speeds are not reduced when driving near pedestrians and cutting in line (such as those on international bridges).
In Ciudad Juárez, the most common form of rudeness is disregarding traffic lights when crossing the street and being rude to service personnel, the report says.
