Juan Sebastián Muñoz will leave at 12 noon in search of the most important victory of his career and also of Colombian golf in its entire history. It is second in The Players Championship, considered the ‘big fifth’ of this sport.
After a spectacular comeback in what he managed to play on Sunday in his third round at the TPC Sawgrass Stadium Course, the Bogota native closed the round with three pars and a birdie to sign a card of 65 strokes (-7), the best in the tournament so far.

This is how Muñoz arrives at the last round of The Players
With 208 strokes (-8), Muñoz shares second place with England’s Paul Casey and Americans Doug Ghim and Sam Burns, and is one hit behind the leader, Indian Anirban Lahiri.
“I am very happy in the position I am in and my game is very good. I am hitting very well off the tee and my speed on the green is perfect, something that has been costing me the last few weeks,” Muñoz said at the end of his third route.
“I felt very good starting the third round and yesterday I was able to make three birdies in a row and from there everything went well, maybe there are still 18 holes left and there is no point in thinking about later,” he added.
Although he looks at what comes with great caution, Muñoz is also excited. “That indicates that I am at the level of the great players and that you have to dare to dream.”

This is how it has gone for Colombians in The Players
The best performance of a Colombian in The Players was achieved by Camilo Villegas in 2006, when he finished in third place with 283 hits, nine behind the champion of that edition, the Canadian Stephen Ames.
Muñoz is playing the tournament for the third time. In 2020 he managed to play only one round before the tournament was canceled due to the start of the covid-19 pandemic and last year he did not make the cut.
The purse of The Players Championship is the largest in the circuit: 20 million dollars, of which the champion keeps 3.6 million.
