Andrea Joly, a journalist for La Stampa, was attacked in Turin outside a club called ‘Asso di Bastoni’, frequented by militants from far-right circles. Two of the alleged perpetrators of the beating were identified by the Digos and the State Police: they are two militants from CasaPound. According to what has been learned, both are facing a complaint for personal injury connected to the aggravating circumstance of the crime committed “to facilitate the activity of organizations, associations, movements or groups” that have among their purposes “ethnic, national, racial or religious discrimination or hatred”.
According to the reconstruction, the journalist Andrea Joly was walking past the club while a party was underway. Some people came out and, after asking him who he was, ordered him to hand over his cell phone, then threatened him and kicked him as he tried to walk away. The Asso di Bastoni club has a different version: “He was taking photos and videos, he was asked who he was. He did not identify himself as a journalist but, instead, he pushed some kids, creating an argument.” The journalist was forced to seek treatment in hospital. The investigation is now being entrusted to the police Digos agents who are currently analyzing the footage.
“I express my solidarity with the journalist Andrea Joly, who was the victim of an unacceptable attack in Turin last night. An act of violence that I firmly condemn and for which I hope those responsible will be identified as quickly as possible. The Government is paying maximum attention and I have asked the Minister of the Interior Piantedosi to be updated on the developments of the case”, declared Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni. Condemnation for the incident by all parliamentary forces.
