A Briton has cycled 8000 kilometers through Great Britain and thus raised 35,000 euros for charity. Josh Garman, 22, suffered a number of setbacks during the months-long journey. He even ended up in the hospital, but that didn’t stop him from completing the journey.
Garman set out in April and cycled along the British coastline. He ended up with his bike and yellow trailer where he started: the coastal town of Berwick-upon-Tweed. The cyclist told the British broadcaster BBC that people came to cheer him on during the last kilometers of his journey.
The twenty-something raised the money for the organization Hope for Hasti. It is funding research into a treatment for Cornelia de Lange Syndrome (CdLS), a rare genetic disorder. The foundation was founded by the parents of a girl with the condition.

The journey was far from flawless. Garman was accompanied by his girlfriend in Wales, but she crashed and ended up in hospital. A few days later, Garman himself had to be admitted. He was exhausted and suffered from dehydration. That led to a weeks-long interruption of the trip.
The hardships he endured did earn him the thanks of the founders of Hope for Hasti. Hasti’s father, who had traveled more than 1,100 kilometers barefoot to raise money, said he was happy that he inspired Garman.
The twenty-something has already announced that he should no longer think about cycling for the time being. “My body is broken in every possible way.”
