That duality of being the apparent bad boy, metalhead and crazy, but also the friend with a good heart and fun, was certainly what made Eddie Munson become one of the most beloved characters in the last season of the Netflix series. ‘Stranger Things’.
The British actor who plays him is Joseph Quinn, who at 29 years old took on the challenge of getting into the skin of this teenager, whose characterization, he says, worked from intuition and spontaneity. “It was a straight process. Eddie is so confident of what is happening at the time that he had to be spontaneous and even a little childish, full of light, he trusted his instincts a lot so I decided not to prepare so much, ”says the actor through Zoom in conversation with various media outlets in the region, including La República.
“There was also the fact that I had to look minor, so yeah, I tried to be as spontaneous as I could. I worked between scenes, because everything was so intuitive. I just couldn’t wait until they decided what the right scene was, I was always watching the process, ”reveals the interpreter, who due to the profile of his character had to wear a wig all the time.
A graduate of the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, Quinn plays the guitar very well. He has also participated in major productions such as “Game of Thrones”, where he played the role of Koner, a Stark soldier. However, the big break in his career came when he was cast to take on the role of Eddie Munson in ‘Stranger Things’.
About the personality of the charismatic leader of the Hellfire Club, he rescues his sweetness. “I think Eddie is very sweet, there is a scene with Chrissy and he is very cute, adorable. He definitely has a beauty. Also, he is passionate about music and that’s great. He has all of that without losing the attitude. Of course, I probably wouldn’t steal his academic grades, let him keep it, ”he says with a laugh.
When you play the song Master Of Puppets by Metallica, it was one of the best moments of the season. How was the construction of this scene? Did you expect the great acceptance of the fans?
Filming the scene was a lot of fun. Since I read the sequence I thought it was fantastic, so I spent a lot of time practicing on my own and thinking all the time how I was going to do it. A lot of people on the team didn’t know how important my music was, but they hadn’t heard it, so it was a great day. Regarding the fans, I can’t believe that they responded in this way, I feel very happy and overwhelmed, because the guitar solo was not only made by me.
Quinn appreciates the loyalty of the fans and although it seems that the dismissal of Eddie from the series is a fait accompli, everything can happen in the Upside Down.
